Sellers fined for selling substandard eatables in Ludhniana

The fine was imposed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General)-cum-Adjudicating Officer Rishi Pal Singh.

Ludhiana: Eight food sellers here have been fined a total of Rs 49 lakh by the District Administration for violating the Food Safety and Standard Act and selling substandard food items.

The fine was imposed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General)-cum-Adjudicating Officer Rishi Pal Singh.

While passing the magisterial order, Singh informed that a few days ago, Ravinderpal Garg, Manoj Kumar Khosla and Yogesh Goyal from the office of Designated Officer cum District Health Officer, Ludhiana, had recorded samples of roasted chana, Bikaneri Namkeen, paneer, curd, slice bottles, confectionary, rose-e-ruffin drink and namkeen, khoya and natural kiwi juice from various shops in the city.

He informed that when these samples were checked as per the process in the laboratory, all these products were found to be below the prescibed standards.

Keeping in mind the safety of residents and public interest, these persons have been fined Rs 49 lakh.

This fine has been imposed under section 51 of the Act.

The violators have been directed to deposit the amount in government treasury immediately.
