New Delhi: Following assertions that expelled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dayashankar Singh's wife and daughter had been traumatised by the BSP members in retribution for his obscene comment on the party chief Mayawati, the latter put the onus on his family's silence saying that they should have raised the same concern when he had made the statement that got him into trouble in the first place.
"I spoke to my party when I heard about such strong comments being used against his daughter and his wife and yes, they should have refrained from saying so. However, why did his wife and daughter stay quiet when he made the statement in the first place? They should have condemned it while they could, maybe then they would not have been in this position," Mayawati told the media here.
Asserting that it was possible that external elements had infiltrated the angry BSP protesters and directed the comments towards Dayashankar's family, she added that his wife and daughter had been targeted to make them feel the impact of obscene comments.
"It was done so that they could feel the hurt when such comments are made against them. I did not tell my people to take to the streets but they were filled with anger when their sister, who is like a god to them, was offended in such a manner," she said.
Further stating that his expulsion from the BJP for six years was not enough, Mayawati said that he should be permanently removed from the party as punishment for his comment.
Adding that the FIR should have been filed by the BJP and not the BSP, she added that she has never used obscene language for any political leader in her life and called on people to rise above cheap politics and not use such foul language against each other.
Earlier, lamenting over the abuse which she and her daughter have been facing following the expulsion of her husband Dayashankar Singh from BJP, his wife Swati Singh has accused the BSP members of `traumatizing` their minor daughter.
Asserting that till date she was hearing cruel comments regarding her husband's fate by BSP members in broad daylight, she added that she and her daughter were not being spared as well and had been dragged into the politics.
"Shouldn't Mayawati take action on her people for saying such things for my daughter? Rules that applied to my husband apply to BSP members as well," Swati said.Stating that her daughter was currently in a state of trauma ever since her father's controversy erupted, the disgraced former BJP leader`s wife said that her 12-year-old child had not point blankly refused to go to school or even leave home for that matter.
"My daughter is in trauma. Even in school, the other kids pointed out to her the controversy. She is so disturbed that she is not leaving the house. They have dragged my daughter into politics. Why is it that those who are walking around offering 50 lakh rupees as reward for my husband's tongue not being condemned? Where are the women activists now?," Swati said.
Earlier, Mayawati had warned that if concrete action was not taken against him for his statement, she would not be responsible for the action of her party members.Mayawati stressed that Singh's expulsion by the BJP was not enough and asserted that she had been assured of his arrest within 36 hours, which is why her party agreed to call off its protests.
