Bengal Elections 2016: IB predicts massive victory for Mamata Banerjee's TMC?

Kolkata: Even as political parties are preparing a ground to fight election for West Bengal Assembly to be held in April-May, Intelligence Bureau's preliminary report to Union Home Ministry has already predicted Trinamool Congress victorious.

According to Hindustan Times, the report submitted by the IB predicts that Mamata Banerjee-led TMC will not only win the poll, but also improve its 2011 tally of 184 seats.

The report further states the BJP, despite its fierce campaign, may not win more than five seats. It also does not rule out the possibility of the party drawing blank in the state.

For the Congress, the IB report predicts 20-25 seats and Left may once again emerge as the second largest party with 60-70 seats in its kitty.

The report was sent after the polls were announced and is based on the present scenario in the state.

“This is just the first report based on the ground reality right now. However, during campaign, when the seat sharing pact is settled finally, the scenario may change,” a senior officer of central IB told HT.

“In North Bengal where there are only 54 seats there will be a straight fight. The opposition is expected to gain seats. However, the ruling party is expected to sweep South Bengal,” the officer added.

As the poll inch closer, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee continues to be the most popular leader in the state.

At present, there is only one BJP MLA in West Bengal Assembly.

From West Bengal 16 members are sent to Rajya Sabha – a number which is essential for the ruling party in Centre to win over the obstacles in the Upper House.
