Indonesia names suspects behind Jakarta suicide blast

Jakarta: Indonesian police have named six people in custody as suspects of the suicide bombings that killed eight people and injured 19 others, police chief said here on Wednesday.

The six people played role in the attacks at a police station and a Starbucks coffee shop near a UN office in Jakarta, Xinhua quoted national police chief General Badrodin Haiti as saying.

However, they were not directly involved in the attacks, Badrodin said.

The police chief disclosed that most of them were linked with one of the suicide bombers, Dian Juni Kurdiadi.

However, the police chief did not give further detail on the role of the suspects and the results of the investigation. The six were part of 13 people who were arrested by the police anti-terror squad since Thursday's deadly blasts.

National police spokesman Inspector General Anton Charliyan said the six suspects knew the suicide bomber Dian Juni's plan.

The bomber gave them a message which indicated that he would be committed to the suicide bombing and asked them to help manage his belongings.

The Islamic State (IS) was blamed for the suicide bombing as it designed and funded the acts, according to Jakarta police chief Brigadier General Tito Karnavian.

Bahrun Naim, who has been in competition with his rival to lead the IS group in Southeast Asia, allegedly coordinated the strikes, the police general said.
