Skoda silently recalls Octavia for faulty child lock

Czech automaker Skoda has issued a silent recall for its D-segment saloon, the Octavia. As per an official release issued by Skoda, the recall is to check the 'manual child lock of the two rear doors’.

Only 539 units of the Octavia, produced between November 2015 and April 2016 have been affected. Skoda says that the inspection will take 12 minutes. In case the locks need to be replaced, it is another 45-minute affair. Of course, the recall is completely free of charge for the owners. The automaker says that dealers will contact affected owners to get the issue rectified. However, in case you've brought home an Octavia recently, we'd recommend you talk to your dealer about the recall.

Notably, Skoda recently announced a roadmap to thoroughly revamp its customer perception, which includes launching four new products and also upping up the game in terms of service. Some inclusions in the service ramp up plan, include a 4 year / 100,000 kms warranty, roadside assistance at no extra cost and same day delivery for periodic service.

The Octavia is available with three engine options that include the 1.4-litre and a 1.8-litre turbo petrols and a 2.0-litre diesel. It is loaded to the gills with tech too and gets goodies such as a touchscreen infotainment system with MirrorLink, leather upholstery, automatic climate control and an electric sunroof as well. Prices start at Rs 16.6 lakh for the base 'Ambition' 1.4-litre TSi, whereas the top-spec 'Style Plus' 2.0-litre TDi retails for Rs 22.4 lakh. The Skoda goes head to head with the likes of the Toyota Corolla Altis, Volkswagen Jetta and the upcoming Hyundai Elantra.
