Is this how the facelifted Hyundai Creta would look like in India?

Hyundai hit all the right notes with the Indian masses when it launched the Creta SUV in the market last year. But with the car facing unlikely competition from the smaller Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, which is eating into the Creta’s sales because of its aggressive pricing and the variety of features on offer, the Creta is due for a makeover in the near future.

And we are guessing that the facelifted Hyundai Creta, expected to be launched in India in 2017, will take inspiration from its Brazilian counterpart that was recently teased in the Latin American country ahead of the São Paulo International Motor Show to be held in November.

From what the teaser shots indicate, the car could feature its hexagonal front grille in a larger avatar; taking design cues from Superman’s crest. It is flanked by a similar pair of headlamps on either side, but the fog lamps have taken a 90-degree turn. They are now aligned parallel to the ground as opposed to the perpendicular ones on the current Creta.

The rear of the Korean carmaker’s SUV hasn’t undergone any radical changes either, as one can spot nothing more apart from a larger bumper and slightly reworked tail lamps in the teaser images. A dash of chrome has also been added to the backside of the car in the form of a strip connecting the two lamps.

The current-gen Hyundai Creta offers three engine options in the country in the form of the 1.4-litre diesel, the 1.6-litre diesel and the 1.6-litre petrol pots. Power is transmitted through either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.

The Creta has been one of the most successful products in the Indian market in the past 12-18 months, having sold around 1 lakh units in the course. In fact, the SUV was among the top 10 selling cars in August with 8,450 units as it helped Hyundai to maintain its position as the country’s second largest carmaker with a total of 43,201 cars hawked.
