New Delhi: Bollywood actor Salman Khan was on Thursday sentenced to five years in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 after a Jodhpur court convicted him for killing two rare blackbucks, putting an end, at least for now, to a legal battle that ran for 20 years.

Amid tight security, Salman was taken to the Jodhpur Central jail where he will spend at least a night in the Ward number 2. The prison also houses rape-accused Asaram Bapu, Bhanwari Devi murder accused Malkhan Singh Vishnoi and Shambhu Lal Regar, arrested for killing a Muslim and blatantly filming the act.

Salman has been given the identity of 'prisoner number 106'. Initially, a report claimed that after Salman was taken to the Jodhpur jail, his manager arrived at the jail with his belongings. As per a report, the manager had brought with himself clothes, packed food items from the Hotel Taj along with a plate for the actor.

The DIG of the Jodhpur jail, on the other hand, rubbished all the claims and was quoted by the Indiatoday.com that no special treatment will be meted out to the actor. "He will be served the same food as is served to the other prisoners in the jail and will not be allowed to eat anything from outside," he was quoted by the website. The officer added that Salman has been provided with four blankets and like all other prisoners, he too will sleep on the floor.

The prosecution alleged that Salman and other Bollywood stars Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre and Neelam went hunting on the October 1-2 in 1998 outside a forest reserve near Kankani village in Jodhpur while shooting for 'Hum Saath Saath Hain' in 1998.

The four co-stars and a local, Dushyant Singh, were all acquitted. This is the fourth time Salman was sent to Jodhpur jail. Earlier, he spent 18 days in the jail at different times in 1998, 2006 and 2007 -- all in poaching cases. Every time, he was released on bail.

Meanwhile, other actors and co-accused in the case - Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Neelam Kothari and Tabu were acquitted by the court on 'benefit of doubt'.
