Punjab Lok Congress founder and former CM Capt Amarinder Singh casts his vote at polling booth number 95-98. Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh said that Congress will be wiped out from the state in the Assembly elections.

Aam Aadmi Party`s chief ministerial candidate in Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, on Sunday exercised his franchise in Mohali. He is contesting from Dhuri in the Sangrur district. Mann also offered prayers at Gurdwara Sacha Dhan in Mohali.

Conjoined twins Sohna and Mohna cast their votes in the Manwal area of Amritsar district on Sunday. Both of them will be counted as separate voters. Returning Officer (RO) provided them with goggles so that the secrecy of their vote was maintained.

Voting is underway for Assembly elections at pink booths across Punjab which provides special arrangements for pregnant women and persons with disabilities, among other people. Pink booths are managed entirely by the women polling personnel. They were set up by the Election Commission to encourage women voters to vote.

The Punjab Assembly polls are being held in a single phase. In Punjab, over 2.14 crore voters will decide the fate of 1304 candidates who are in the fray from 117 constituencies. There are 2,14,99,804 voters in Punjab who are eligible to exercise their franchise on Sunday. The counting of votes will be done on March 10. 

Election Commission has set up 24,689 polling stations spread over 14, 684 locations in the state. The polling in Punjab is taking place amid heavy security. Voting picked up pace in Punjab after two hours of its commencement. Over 34 percent voters’ turnout was recorded till 1 pm in the state.
