It seems that north India is set to shiver this winter! La Nina, a weather phenomenon that leads to harsher winters, will be hitting Asia, said experts and this weather phenomenon is also expected to add to Asia’s energy crisis. In a chilly warning, experts have said that mercury will fall as low as 3 degrees celsius due to the La Nina effect  in January and February.

On Monday (October 25), several areas of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand received heavy snowfall, as India braces for a very cold winter. The Manali-Leh highway was closed for normal traffic on Sunday after fresh snow at Baralacha pass in Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul and Spiti district. According to a disaster management official, 80 people were stuck in the Lahaul-Spiti district due to bad weather.

Meanwhile, for those on the Char Dham Yatra, the cold increased, though the yatra continued. The Devasthanam Management Board informed that the Char Dham Yatra continued in Uttarakhand amid snowfall in the state.

The cold also increased in the low-lying areas including both the places of Uttarkashi district.The roads and the helipad here have been covered with a layer of snow and the clearing operations are in process near Kedarnath Shrine.The helicopter service has been affected in Kedarnath and snow is being cleared from the helipad.

Snowfall in Anantnag leads to casualties

Two people died while as many were rescued after they were trapped in snowfall in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Sunday, taking the death toll due to inclement weather to five. Parts of the valley, especially the higher reaches in south Kashmir, received moderate to heavy snowfall over the weekend.
