Happy Father’s Day 2022: Sachin-Arjun Tendulkar to Lala-Mohinder Amarnath, check father-child duos in Indian sports - In pics

Dr Vece Paes was part of 1972 Olympics hockey team that won the bronze medal. 24 years later his son Leander bagged an Olympic bronze in Tennis. This is the only father-son pair in India to have won an Olympic medal for the country. Leander's mother Jennifer captained the Indian volleyball team at the 1980 Asian basketball championship.

Yograj Singh played only one Test and ODI for India in 1981. He was not happy with the way he was treated by the selectors. Yograj had only one ambition in mind - to make his son the best cricketer in the world. Little Yuvraj played non-stop cricket during his formative years and turned out to be India's most reliable batsman, especially in the limited-overs format. Yuvraj played pivotal roles in India's World T20 triumph in 2007 and World Cup 2011 win. 

Vinoo Mankad (Bottom left), one of India's finest all-rounders, with his wife Manorama and son Ashok Mankad (Top right) who played 22 Tests for India. Vinoo's opening stand of 413 alongside Pankaj Roy against New Zealand in 1956 remained a record in Tests for 52 years. His other sons, Atul and Rahul, also played First-Class cricket for Bombay.

Sachin Tendulkar is regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket and. The legendary batter broke several major records in his career and achieves some elusive milestones which remain unmatched even today. He holds the record for most centuries in Test cricket by any batter in the world. The Master Blaster slammed a stunning 51 centuries in the whites and his record is likely to stay as no one has managed to come close to the feat. Sachin's son Arjun is a left-handed fast bowler and left-handed batsman. His Under-19 debut for India was against Sri Lanka in 2018. He made his Twenty20 debut on 15 January 2021, for Mumbai in the 2020–21 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Haryana. On debut, he took one wicket for 34 runs from three overs. Arjun was bought by Mumbai Indians in IPL auction in 2021. However, he is yet to make his IPL debut.

Former batter Sanjay Manjrekar played 37 Tests and 74 ODIs for India between 1988-96 scoring 4037 international runs. His father Vijay Manjrekar also had represented India in 55 Tests between 1952-65.

Legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar's (Right) contributions on the pitch inspired a generation of Indian cricketers. The Little Master became the first batsman in the world to score 10,000 Test runs and score 34 Test centuries. His son Rohan too played for India albeit in the One-Day Internationals (ODI). The duo has the rare distinction of getting a wicket in the first over bowled in ODI cricket.  

Dhyan Chand was the Wizard of Indian hockey and one of the very few people who startled Adolf Hitler. At the 1936 Berlin Olympic games, Hitler was very impressed with Dhyan Chand and asked if he would like to play for Germany. Dhyan Chand's son Ashok Kumar was a very good player, best remembered for his match-winning goal against arch rivals Pakistan at the 1975 World Cup final in Kuala Lumpur. 

Roger Binny is considered as one of India's finest all-rounders and he was the top wicket-taker when India won the 1983 World Cup. His son Stuart was part of Team India before taking retirement on 30 August 2021. Notably, India have so far won only three Tests at Lord's - in 1986, 2014 and 2021. Roger was part of the 1986 team and Stuart was in the 2014 team. One of the remarkable coincidences is both Roger and Stuart scored 9 off 19 balls in the first innings of the respective Lord's Test. 

Lala Amarnath is India's first Test match centurion and one of India's best all-rounders of his time. Two of Lala's sons Surinder and Mohinder went on to play for India. Lala and Surinder scored hundreds on their Test debuts - making them the only pair in the history of cricket to achieve this feat. But it was Mohinder who went on to be one of India's most reliable batsmen in the middle order. Mohinder's all-round ability helped him win the man of the match awards in the semi finals and final of the 1983 World Cup. 

Not many people know that star shuttler and Olympic silver medallist P.V. Sindhu (Left) comes from a family of sportspersons. Her father P.V. Ramana (Right) and mother Vijaya played volleyball. Ramana was part of India's bronze-medal winning team in the 1986 Asian Games.

Ramanathan Krishnan (Left) was one of the finest singles players India has ever produced. He reached the Wimbledon semifinals in 1960 and 1961. His son Ramesh (Right) reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon once (1986) and the US Open twice (1981 and 1987). He was also part of the Indian team that reached 1987 Davis Cup final.

Legendary Milkha Singh put India on the world athletics map as he was the first track and field athlete to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal in 1958 and finished fourth in the 400m final at the 1960 Rome Olympics. His son, Jeev Milkha Singh was the first Indian golfer to join the European Tour and has 20 Tour wins to his name.
