After saying his final goodbyes to his deceased mother, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Joka-Taratala segment of the Kolkata Metro's Purple Line. On Friday, the inauguration was conducted by video conference. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee was also present at the inauguration event. Along with it, PM also flagged off East India's first Vande Bharat Express train. The semi-high-speed train will be operated on the Howrah-New Jalpaiguri route.
The trial run for the 6.5km metro line was conducted earlier in the presence of Arun Arora, General Manager, and other senior Metro railway officials. The officials interrogated the functioning of the metro and preparations for the use of the general public.

Kolkata Metro Purple line stations
The new purple line of the metro will cover six stations on the 6.5 km stretch. The stations covered are Joka, Thakurpukur, Sakher Bazar, Behala Chowrasta, Behala Bazar, Taratala.
The 9.2 kilometre viaduct stretch from the ramp of Joka Depot to the beginning of Majerhat railway station in Sealdah division is known as the Joka- Taratala stretch and is a part of the Joka- Esplanade Purple Line. There have been 110 UTS HH rails utilised in this project.

At each of the six noteworthy stations, there are four lifts with a capacity for 13 people each, eight staircases, and seven escalators. At the platforms, there are also a number of passenger facilities such benches, AFC gates, PA systems, and ATVMs.
Kolkata Metro Fare
Earlier, the Railway Board revealed the fare structure of the new Joka-Taratala stretch of the metro. The fare on the line ranges from Rs 5 to Rs 20, depending on the stations one travels through. The tourist smart card for the metro can be bought at the cost of Rs 250 for 3 days and Rs 550 for 5 days. It will have a security deposit of Rs 80.
