New Delhi: One of the best Indian speedsters of all time, Zaheer Khan on Thursday announced his retirement with immediate effect.
Injuries at regular intervals throughout his career trimmed Zaheer's international cricket as the 37-year-old himself confessed that he was not fit enough to deal with the rigorous of the modern game.
In last four months he didn't play any significant match. The last match he played was four months back in 17 May 2015, in which he represented Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League 2015.
After Zak's retirement, now it would be interesting to see when the other ageing cricketers like Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh – who played a lot of cricket together for a long time – will hang their boots.
Interestingly, they all were part of the Indian team which lifted the 2011 ICC World Cup trophy. In fact, each one of them played their role to perfection to help India won the prestigious trophy.
Barring Yuvraj, other three were also the integral part of the Indian Team who reached the zenith of Test rankings in 2011.
Discarded Indian cricketers Gambhir, Yuvraj and Sehwag are currently playing Ranji Trophy in their pursuit of regaining respective places in the Indian team.
Only Harbhajan Singh has made a comeback recently in the Indian side after a string of impressive performances at domestic level.
All these cricketers are trying hard to get back to the national fold.
But don't get surprise if they soon follow the footsteps of Zaheer, who is the fourth highest wicket-taker (311 scalps) for India in Test cricket after Anil Kumble (619), Kapil Dev (434) and Harbhajan Singh (417).
