New Delhi: When it comes to Indian cricket, Yuvraj Singh's battle with cancer has been well documented.

However, another Indian cricket personality has been silently fighting the disease for the last few months.

According to a report in The Hindu, cricket commentator Arun Lal as been battling jaw cancer, which was detected in January 2016.

The former cricketer underwent a 14-hour surgery in a Kolkata hospital on Saturday and had his jaw replaced.

"It's a rare and dangerous cancer. The symptoms were detected in time before I went through a rigorous treatment process. Thank God, I have been able to hold my place. It is like a new life. It was tough but I am indebted to the fantastic job by the doctors," he told the newspaper.

While not many people knew about this development, Lal's close friends have been in touch with him.

“I got calls from close friends,” he said.

The 60-year-old hoped to make a comeback into the commentary box after two months.

Lal played 16 Tests and 13 ODIs for India between 1982 and 1989.
