New Delhi: England suffered at the hands of West Indies batsman Chris Gayle on Wednesday and now a similar prospect could await them in the ICC World Twenty20 encounter against South Africa in the form of AB de Villiers.
AB is one of the most destructive batsmen in world cricket and is up there with the likes of Gayle and Australia's David Warner.
Gayle hammered England with a 47-ball 100 as Windies chased down 183-run target at Wankhede, Mumbai. The brutality of Gayle offered no solutions to England bowlers and with AB, there could still be more questions than answers.
The Wankhede in Mumbai is one of AB's favourite hunting ground and in October 2015, he slammed a 119-run knock off just 61 balls against India, as the Proteas posted a huge total of 438 runs in 50 overs.
He has also got an Indian Premier League ton at Wankhede for the Royal Challengers Bangalore last season and has two successive centuries.
Like Gayle, AB has experience of playing in Indian conditions with IPL contributing towards it. Also he is loved immensely by Indian fans, a tale that is similar to that of Gayle.
AB will hope to get in and take some time just like Gayle and go for the kill soon after. If inexperienced England bowlers fail to get AB early on, then they could be set for another pounding in a span of three nights.
What makes AB more dangerous is his wide range of shots and innovation.
This would be a big treat for the fans, who would hope for a similar experience from AB's bat after Gayle's heroics.
