New Delhi: India defeated England by an innings and 75 runs in the fifth and final Test of the five-match series to register a record 18th consecutive win in the five-day format.

Ravindra Jadeja produced a scintillating spell of spin bowling on the final day of the series at Chennai's iconic Chepauk to bowl out Alastair Cook & Co for 207 in the fourth innings. The all-rounder took seven wickets in his 25-over spell.

Under Kohli's captaincy, the Indian team has looked unstoppable and the series win against England is Kohli's record fifth successive series win as a skipper.

India last lost a Test match in August 2015 in Sri Lanka. That series, however, started the unbeaten streak for Virat Kohli & Co.

They won the three-match series 2-1 in Lanka, then captured a four-match series against South Africa 3-0, beat West Indies 2-0 in a four-match series in the Caribbeans, whitewashed visiting New Zealand 3-0, and now beat England 4-0 in the five-match series.

In the process, skipper Kohli has broken several Test records, including his three double tons in the traditional format of the game in 2016.

Previously, India had won five series on a trot under three different captains – Anil Kumble, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virender Sehwag – from 2008 to 2010.

However, the world record for most successive series wins (9) still belongs to Australia.

With India playing five more Test matches, one against Bangladesh and four against Australia, before the start of Indian Premier League in April, Kohli will be looking to enhance the numbers.

It's also India's first series win over England after losing three successive series between 2011 and 2014.

After a high-scoring draw in the series opener in Rajkot, India have registered convincing wins against the visitors in Visakhapatnam, Mohali and Mumbai.

Today's win in Chennai also made the venue, India's most successful Test venue, with 14 wins.
