Chandigarh: On Day 4 of the third Test between at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali, India defeated England by eight wickets.

And Parthiv Patel has done it in style. He launched Batty over covers for the winning runs. While he came as a replacement, Parthiv has reminded everybody of his skills as a handy batsman. Kohli is delighted, so is everybody else. India now lead the series 2-0 with two matches remaining.

Parthiv is making the most of the opportunity which has come his way. He raced to 50 off just 39 balls and has played some delightful strokes. The partnership is now worth 74 runs.

TEA: Woakes got an early breakthrough for England when Murali Vijay edged one towards slips. Parthiv Patel and Cheteswar Pujara ensured that India lost no more wickets post that. India now need 70 more runs with nine wickets remaining.

After losing the wicket of Rashid, Hameed stepped up the gas and played some delightful strokes to bring his second Test fifty. The tenth-wicket stand ended when James Anderson was run-out while taking a risky second run. India need 103 runs to take 2-0 lead.

Mohammed Shami bowled a brilliant 12th over where he dismissed Chris Woakes and Adil Rahid in three balls. Shami first bowled a quick bouncer to Woakes which hit him on the helmet and the neck guard went flying. After seeing that the batsman was unhurt, Shami followed it with another quick bouncer which Woakes edged high into the hands of Parthiv behind the wickets. One ball later, Shami bowled another quick bouncer to new batsman Adil Rashid who holed it straight to deep fine leg. Two quick wickets for the Indian team. England lead by 62 runs and it remains to be seen what sort of a target they can give to the Indian team.

Hameed has done a brilliant job so far for his team by playing 114 balls so far. Chris Woakes isn't hesitating in punishing the loose deliveries. The partnership is now worth 39 runs. England lead by 57 runs with three wickets remaining.

Joe Root's resilience finally came to an end when Ajinkay Rahane took a bllinder at slips off Ravindra Jadeja's bowling. The ball went past the wicketkeeper and had almost gone past Rahane before he pulled it off towards his left. Hameed has battled pain well so far but the result is more of a formality now.

Just like Jadeja, Jayant Yadav too struck in his first over of the day. In a surprise move, Kohli introduced Jayant ahead of Ashwin, but the youngster didn't disappoint his skipper and scalped the wicket of Jos Buttler, who was looking to counter attack. Haseeb Hameed walked to the crease with an injured hand. It remains to be seen how long can he stay at the crease. Root, as usual, is trying his best to steady the ship.

Ravindra Jadeja got the team off to a superb start on Day 4 as he trapped Gareth Batty in front of the wicket off the first ball of the day. Jos Buttler is the new man in. He is known for his big-hitting abilities, but he will have to play a different role for his team today.

Day 3 Recap:

Star India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin kept his team firmly on course for yet another comprehensive victory, outclassing England on all counts here at the end of the third day's play.

At stumps, England were in deep trouble at 78 for four, still 56 runs in arrears and only six wickets at their disposal.

Earlier in the day, Ravindra Jadeja smashed his way to a career-best 90 while Ashwin hit 72 as lower middle-order once again put up a power-packed performance to score a commendable 417 in the first innings, thereby giving India a healthy 134-run lead over England.

A four-day finish with a 2-0 lead is looking imminent for India.
