Mohammed Shami out of England ODI series due to knee injury: Reports

New Delhi: Indian cricket team's injury woes compounded on Friday with pace spearhead Mohammed Shami ruling out of the upcoming limited overs series against England.

The 26-year-old has been fighting a persistent injury in his left-knee, and he missed the fifth and final Test against England in Chennai.

The BCCI had earlier confirmed the "soreness in his right knee" and said that the bowler has been "advised rest and rehabilitation." He was to attend rehabilitation programme at the National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru.

It's reliably learnt that his place will go the Ishant Sharma. But reports also claimed veteran left-arm seamer Ashish Nehra could still be a surprise inclusion in the limited overs squad.

Shami is the latest player to join the injury-list. Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Wriddhiman Saha have all suffered injuries and yet to make their respective comebacks.

The England series will resume on January 15, with the first of three One-Day International matches, after the Christmas break. It will be followed by a three-match Twenty20 International series.

India won the five-match Test series 4-0.
