IPL has become successful because of ICL: Dr Subhash Chandra

New Delhi: The Essel group Chairman Dr Subhash Chandra on Thursday said that the cash-rich cricket tournament Indian Premier League (IPL) has become successful because of idea of Indian Cricket League (ICL).

During Dr Chandra's autobiography launch at Zee Jaipur Literature Festival on Thursday, when aquestion was posed: 'Do you think you have gifted a gold mine to BCCI by launching ICL?', the Media mogul quipped: “Yes IPL has become successful because of ICL. And Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made a lot of money from it.”

The media mogul was the first person in the country to have brought in the idea of league cricket with ICL. However, the idea was later usurped by BCCI which launched it in a new and fabulously successful avatar of IPL.

Dr Chandra's book named: The book named - 'The Z Factor: My Journey as the Wrong Man at the Right Time' entails the life story of the media avant-gardist and his journey so far.

He is known for his contribution in the television industry with the country's first satellite Hindi channel Zee TV in 1992 and later Zee News.

The book launch was graced by well known figures like M J Akbar, Vallabh Bhansali, Krishan Chopra.  Yesterday, the autobiography was unveiled by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence 7 RCR.
