Quinton de Kock: Delhi Daredevils' wicketkeeper-batsman makes mockery of star-studded RCB

New Delhi: Prodigious South African opener Quinton de Kock on Sunday became the first player to hit a century in the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), helping Delhi Daredevils to a convincing seven-wicket win over favourites Royal Challengers.

Chasing a big total of 191 runs at Bangalore's M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the 23-year-old hold the Daredevils innings with a knock of highest order.

His finally got out trying to play a bouncer from Shane Watson in the second ball of the 19th over, caught behind. His innings was laced with 15 fours and three sixes.

The South African reached his hundred with a single, off the 48th ball he faced today, bowled by David Wiese. He and Karun Nair stitched an 134-run third wicket partnership in 12.4 overs.

Kolkata Knight Riders' skipper Gautam Gambhir was the previous highest scorer with an unbeaten 90 against SunRisers Hyderabad yesterday.

His range of stroke-play against a side which has probably the strongest batting line-up in the tournament sounded alarm bells for the hosts.

Earlier, the hosts rode on the brilliance of skipper Virat Kohli 79 (48) and another Proteas AB de Villiers 55 (33) to post 191 for five wickets.

Now, with de Kock playing a blinder, the famed RCB batting line up looks like a second string outfit.
