New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday appointed Justice (Retd) Mukul Mudgal as an observer to oversee the affairs of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 matches at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium here.
According to reports, a bench of justices S Muralidhar and Vibhu Bakhru directed Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) to extend “full co-operation” to Justice Mudgal, who was also a former judge of the Delhi High Court before his elevation as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The bench stated on Thursday that the DDCA will extend full co-operation to Mudgal.
“Accordingly, Justice Mukul Mudgal is requested to continue as observer in pursuance to the November 18, 2015 order. DDCA will extend full co-operation to him,” the bench said.
Earlier on November 18 last year, the high court had paved the way for DDCA to hold the India-South Africa test match at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium and appointed Justice Mudgal to oversee the affairs of the match.
Meanwhile the bench had also stated that Mudgal's remuneration for the assignment will be decided by the man himself and DDCA will pay the same to him.
Mudgal. who was also an observer for the recently concluded ICC World Cup T20 matches at the Kotla, had headed the Supreme Court-appointed panel to inquire into the allegations of corruption against former BCCI chief N Srinivasan’s son-in -law Gurunath Meiyappan, India Cements, and others and charges of betting and spot-fixing in the 2013 IPL matches.
Meanwhile, DDCA told the bench that the cricketing body has no difficulty if Justice Mudgal continues as observer for the upcoming IPL matches in the capital.
