STUMPS! It has been Pakistan's day courtesy a superb spell from Yasir Shah, where the leggie claimed wickets at regular intervals. Cook played a handy knock of 81 runs after he was dropped several times by the Pakistani fielders. Woakes and Broad have done well to add 21 runs for the eighth-wicket partnership. The hosts still trail by 86 runs with three wickets remaining and cliche it might sound, but first session will be very crucial for both the teams tomorrow.

Much to the delight of the visitors, Yasir Shah completed his first five-wicket haul as he trapped Moeen Ali in front of the wicket. The left-hander was looking to play a sweep shot, misjudged the length as the ball came a bit quicker and hit him on the pads. Ali reviewed the decision, but the third umpire stayed with the call of the field umpire, despite some doubt.

Bairstow became Yasir's fourth victim as he tried cutting a ball which was full and there wasn't much width on offer. Yasir has been brilliant in providing breakthroughs to Misbah every now and then. Chris Woakes is the new man in and he needs to give some company to Ali, who is the better of the two batsmen.

Mohammad Amir was finally rewarded for all the hard work as he picked the big wicket of Cook. The skipper saw width on offer and he tried to drive it, but got an edge which crashed on to his stumps. Earlier, Ballance became Yasir's third victim as he failed to read a ball which turned sharply into him and was trapped in front of the wicket. The leggie has brought Pakistan back in the game with his triple blows.

Soon after completing the 100-run partnership, Root was dismissed by Yasir Shah as he threw his wicket away. In the 29th overs, Root had swept Yasir off the previous delivery towards fine leg for a boundary. He tried a slog-sweep off the next ball, got a top edge and Hafeez grabbed on an easy chance at short midwicket. Just before the 35th over, Yasir picked another wicket when Vince was trapped in front of the wicket. The umpire took some time to give his decision, but finally Dharamsena raised his finger. The captain, despite some dropped chances, is standing tall at the other end and he needs to play a big knock for his team now.

Cook and Root continued to punish the Pakistani bowlers with their resilience and have so far added a brilliant 98-run stand for the second-wicket partnership. Barring Amir, none of the Pakistani bowlers have looked impressive. Had the Pakistani fielders grabbed on to the few chances which came their way, it could have been a different story. But at the moment, the hosts are in total control of the match.

LUNCH! England are off to a flier here. After losing Alex Hales in the second over of their innings, skipper Alastair Cook and Joe Root have added 56 runs for the second-wicket partnership. The runs are also coming at a quick pace for the hosts. Alastair Cook was lucky as he was dropped on 22 by Hafeez off Amir's ball.

Skipper Misbah-ul-Haq on Thursday became the oldest player to score a Test century for 82 years as he helped his side recover against the hosts.

Misbah was 110 not out in a Pakistan total of 282 for six at stumps on the first day of this four-match series.

The 42-year-old Misbah`s achievement was all the more impressive as this was also his first Test at the `home of cricket`.
