SC's verdict on Lodha panel's report: Read how it will help BCCI save Rs 1,600 crore annually

New Delhi: While the Supreme Court upheld most of the recommendations of the Lodha panel in their landmark judgement on Monday, the apex court's letting go of barring the broadcast of ads between matches would have come as a huge sigh of relief for the BCCI.

The Indian board, which is said to make a profit of around Rs 1,600 crore annually through ads, was relieved with the court's judgement as this recommendation was one of the most challenging ones for the Indian board.

Ever since the reforms were suggested, the BCCI officials relentlessly opposed this recommendation saying that it would not be possible for the board to implement it.

The SC-appointed Lodha panel had recommended the barring of advertisements between overs to allow fans to watch games without any interruptions.

“We make it clear that we have not expressed any opinion in this regard and leave it for the BCCI to examine the matter from all possible angles and take a considered decision having regard to the recommendations made by the (Justice RM Lodha) Committee,” the Apex court said in its verdict.
