FIFA considering lifetime ban on Michel Platini, alleges his lawyer

London: Michel Platini's lawyer has claimed that FIFA's ethics committee is considering a lifetime ban against the embattled UEFA chief over a suspect payment.

Last week, Platini and his FIFA counterpart Sepp Blatter saw their appeals against their provisional 90-day suspension rejected by the ethics committee as investigations into a 'disloyal payment' of 1.35 million pounds to the Frenchman continued.

UEFA chief's lawyer Thibaud d'Ales described FIFA's life ban demand as a " scandal" and "excessive" and said that the overreaching of the request of the commission reflects its total lack of credibility, the Guardian reported.

The lawyer insisted that there was not a single tangible element in the case that could confirm the suspicions.

The Frenchman, who had been considered as the favourite to succeed Blatter, dealt a huge blow to his presidency dreams when FIFA's ethics committee slapped a provisional ban on him over corruption charges.

Meanwhile, both Blatter and Platini have denied any wrongdoing.

Fifa's ethics committee announced on Monday it had opened a case against Blatter and Platini and a decision is expected next month. Until then the Frenchman is prohibited from taking part in the race to succeed Blatter as the president of the world football's governing body with the election scheduled for 26 February.
