Mumbai: Maharashtra girl Vedika Amin set the pool ablaze, breaking the 100m breast stroke national record in the girls` group III category at the 33rd Sub-Junior National Aquatic Championships here on Thursday.

Vedika registered a time of one minute and 21.03 seconds to break the previous record of 1:21.96 which was set by Vania Kapoor of Karnataka in 2013.

Edith Balaji of Pondicherry finished second with a time of 1:23.18 sec and Arushi Manjunath from Karnataka finished third with 1:24.12.

In other results in girls` group III, Jedidah A. of Karnataka swam a fantastic second half to win the 200m individual medley with a time of 2:45.08. She was followed by Adya Nayak of Karnataka with 2:45.59 and Seeya Bijlani of Maharashtra with 2:46.10.

Liyana Fathima Umer won the first medal for Kerala in the 50m Freestyle for Girls Group III with a time of 29.85 seconds followed by Seeya Bijlani (30.31) who won her second medal of the day. Mithika K Karapurkar (30.38) of Goa bagged the bronze.

Maharashtra earned another gold thanks to the exploits of Nitya Khinvasara who won the 50m butterfly in girls Group IV with 35.12 seconds. She was followed by Jharna Kashyap (36.08) of Assam and Cynthia Choudhury (36.25) of West Bengal.
