New Delhi: Khel Ratna awardee Sakshi Malik rebuked Shobhaa De for making negative remarks about Indian Olympians, and said that she hopes to help women follow their dreams.

Talking to Catch News, the wrestler said she's been "chasing the Olympic medal for 12 years". At rio Games, the 23-year-old became the first women wrestler from India to win a medal.

She added that "there should be no difference between boys and girls because girls have proven their mettle..." and "in the times ahead we will see more girls motivated and they will come forward."

The Rohtak girl admitted that, thanks to her family full support, she's "never faced any mistreatment", but "have heard about other girls".

The 58 kg freestyle wrestler, when asked about the controversial Shobhaa De tweet, blamed the columnist for negative remark, and said "she has responded to her tweet with actions."

Sakshi, along with shuttler PV Sindhu, gymnast Dipa Karmakar and shooter Jitu Rai were honoured with the country's highest sporting award, Khel Ratna on August 29 on the occasion of National Sports Day by the President Pranab Mukherjee.
