Andy Murray conquers Novak Djokovic for first Rome Masters title, Serena Williams wins Italian Open

New Delhi: Andy Murray celebrated his 29th birthday in style by conquering world number one Novak Djokovic for his maiden Rome Masters title with a hard-fought win.

Murray, the number two seed who suffered defeat to Djokovic in last week`s Masters final in Madrid, prevailed 6-3, 6-3 in one hour, 35 minutes.

In the women's singles final at Italian Open, Serena Williams beats Madison Keys 7-6 (7/5), 6-3, which served as the 21-time Grand Slam champion's first title of the season.

After the final, Williams tipped her American compatriot to succeed her as world number one.

It was the first all-American WTA claycourt final since Williams beat her older sister Venus to win her maiden French Open title in 2002.

It was Williams's 70th overall title, and 13th in clay. She thus became just the fifth woman to win singles 70 titles after Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert, Steffi Graf and Margaret Court.
