Davis Cup final: Great Britain delay travel to Belgium over security concerns

New Delhi: Amidst security concerns, the Great Britain tennis team has delayed its departure to Belgium for next weekend's Davis Cup final, according to a report.

After last week's horrific Paris terror attacks, Brussels remains on its highest level of alert with unprecedented deployment of soldiers in the Belgian capital.

The final is scheduled for November 27-29 at Ghent, which is 35 miles away from Brussels.

A report in BBC said that the British team, comprising world number two Andy Murray, are not expected to travel until late Monday.

Earlier, the International Tennis Federation said it was "greatly concerned" by the Belgian government's decision to raise the terror alert for Brussels.

After unconfirmed reports of Salah Abdeslam, who is wanted in connection with Paris attacks, doing the rounds, the Belgian government on Friday placed Brussels on its highest level of alert.

And the Belgian capital has for the second time witnessed a virtual lock-down on Sunday too, with Metro services suspended until and residents told to avoid crowds.

The security situation in Brussels is expected to review on later on Sunday.

Prime Minister Charles Michel had on Friday said that there had been "quite precise information" that "several individuals with arms and explosives could launch an attack... perhaps even in several places".
