Why Novak Djokovic can surpass Roger Federer's record of 17 major slams

New Delhi: The world number one tennis star Novak Djokovic has justified his ranking and top seeding at majors throughout the year.

After beating in-form Roger Federer in the finals of US Open on Monday in an intriguing four-set battle, the Serbian took his overall major tally to ten.

Djokovic has certainly consolidated his reputation at the top. And now, the 28-year old is certainly emerging out as a threat to Roger Federer's record 17 grand slam titles.

Here are the reasons why Djokovic can surpass the Swiss' record 17 Grand Slams

Dominance: The Serbian tennis ace has been at the top of the world ranking for quite some time now. By winning three grand slams this year, he has proved that his appetite for majors has reached a level where he doesn't want to compromise at any cost. And it would keep him motivated to cross the 17-figure mark.

Downfall of Rafael Nadal: One player who has given Djokovic a tough time at regular intervals in his illustrous career is Rafael Nadal. But luckily for the Serb, Nadal has been struggling with multiple injuries and is no more a threat to his supremacy, at least for now.

Taming best in the business: In last two consecutive finals at majors, Djokovic got the better of the ageing Swiss -- Wimbledon and US Open. It's not just a proof that the 28-year-old has come of age but has also gained a psychological edge over Federer for the near future.

No other threat to his supremacy: Players like Stan Wawrinka, Marin Cilic and few others have certainly emerged out as big match players in the ATP circuit of late, but even they have failed to be a real threat to Nole as far as supremacy is concerned.

Age on his side: Djokovic is 28, and more importantly, quite fit. In the last few years, he has managed to keep himself away from any serious injury. And if he remains fit for the next few years, he has the game to surpass the record figure of 17 titles by Federer.
