Sushil Kumar vs Narsingh Yadav: Never given any wrestler assurance of trial, says WFI president BBS Singh

New Delhi: In a bid to resolve the ongoing row on who should represent India in the 74 kg freestyle category at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, the Wrestling Federation of India officials met with Sushil Kumar in New Delhi on Wednesday.

According to reports, the two-time Olympic medallists — who is asking for a trial against India's Olympic quota winner Narsingh Pancham Yadav — put forward his arguments on why a trial is required.

The 32-year-old was accompanied by his coach Mahabali Satpal, who is also the wrestler's father-in-law.

"I spoke to the Wrestling Federation of India and it was a positive meeting," says Sushil.

He also reportedly said, “Narsingh is like my brother. Unfortunately, situation is such that I have to fight for trial against him.”

Sushil, added that, he “holds no grudges against the federation. Have put my point across, they will decide what’s to be done next.”

However, WFI president Brij Bushan Singh said that he has "never given any wrestler including Sushil the assurance of a trial."

WFI president further added that Sushil won’t be allowed to be in the national camp until the next hearing.

The meeting comes a day after the Delhi High Court ordered WFI to meet Sushil, and resolve the issue before it gets out of the hand.

On Monday, Sushil moved the High Court seeking fresh trials after his name was omitted by WFI for the Games' preparatory camp.

Sushil has won two Olympic medals in a lower weight category and missed much of the action this year due to injury. But, Narsingh is a frontrunner for the berth after winning the bronze in the world championships in the US.
