Doug Emhoff is the first man in U.S. history to hold the title of second gentleman, following Kamala Harris' election as vice president in 2020.
Emhoff and Harris met on a blind date in 2013 and married the following year.
Emhoff, the first Jewish spouse of a U.S. vice president, frequently speaks out against antisemitism and has hosted several events addressing this issue.
Emhoff has two children, Cole and Ella, from his previous marriage, and Kamala has a close relationship with them, affectionately referred to as “Momala.”
Before serving as second gentleman, Emhoff had a successful career as an attorney. He worked for over three decades as a corporate lawyer and was a partner at the law firm DLA Piper
After stepping down from his legal career, Emhoff began teaching law courses as a Distinguished Visitor from Practice at Georgetown University Law Center
As a second gentleman, he advocates for gender equity, access to legal aid, and reproductive rights, among other causes.
