Ahmedabad: It may turn out to be a tad surprising, but a treasury office in Gandhinagar is home to diamonds, worth over Rs 3 crore, for the past 16 years, as there are no takers for the valuable stones.
According to a story published in the Ahmedabad Mirror, no one has come forward to claim around 104 packets of rough diamonds so far which were burgled from angadiyas in the year 1999 even after the accused were arrested and convicted around 13 years back.
The diamonds which were Rs 1 crore in worth then are Rs 3 crore in market value today.
In the judgment, the Gandhinagar court had asked the concerned authorities to safely store the diamonds at the treasury office.
Sequence of Events
On August 29,1999, angadiyas were burgled near Adalaj when they were on their way for delivery of diamonds. They were robbed inside a GSRTC bus by a group of 7 to 8 men.
Thereafter, a complaint was lodged with Adalaj police and 9 persons including dreaded criminal Taj Mohammad alias Tajio were nabbed.
