Saeed Ajmal: Discarded Pakistani off-spinner refuses PCB's offer of farewell match, says will continue to play

New Delhi: Discarded Pakistani spinner Saeed Ajmal has refused Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) offer of a “fitting send-off”.

“I have no intention to quit one-day or Twenty20 cricket at the moment,” the 38-year-old spinner told Dawn on Tuesday. “I have worked really hard to stage a comeback and my performance in the National T20 Cup reflects that.”

The veteran off-spinner finished this year's National T20 Cup as the leading wicket-taker with 20 wickets from nine games at an average of 11 and a strike rate of 6.28.

Despite remodelling his action - which was deemed illegal for all deliveries by ICC in September 2014, Ajmal was dropped by the selectors after being picked for Pakistan's tour to Bangladesh in April 2015.

The offie further appealed the board to give him chances like the West Indies Cricket Board did with Sunil Narine, who has been a regular with the national squad after working on his action.

“I have proved my form and fitness. I am not quitting and will keep on playing domestic cricket,” he said. “I have played a key role in so many victories; the Board should give me a chance like the West Indies are giving to Sunil Naraine.”

Last week, PCB executive committee chairman Najam Sethi's tweet hogged limelight where he said, "PCB will honour (Shahid) Afridi and Ajmal in fitting send-offs. I will meet and discuss this with them next week."
