New Delhi: Doctors of Ernakulam General Hospital has removed a 70mm-long worm from woman’s eye in Kerala.

According to a report in The Indian Express, 56-year-old Lalitha had come to the hospital complaining of itching in and around her eye. During investigation, doctors found a worm inside her eye.

As per the reports, doctors conducted a 10 minute-long surgery to remove a 70mm- long worm of the Dirofilaria genus from the woman’s eye. The worm is known to cause Elephantiasis, or the swelling of the lymph nodes and vessels.

Before the surgery, she was given a local anesthesia by the physicians which lasted for about 10 minutes.

Lalitha’s eye got better the next day itself, but she was given medications to prevent the spread of the worms to other parts of her body, as reported.
