Medical negligence: Doctors leave surgical scissors inside man's stomach

New Delhi: In a case of sheer negligence, doctors who operated upon a man to remove his appendix, left a large pair of surgical scissors in his abdomen.

Sireekapu Chalapathi (45) from Nellore, underwent an appendix operation on October 3 at Nellore Government General Hospital, after suffering from appendicitis for a few years.

Almost a month later (October 27), he was admitted again after he complained of severe stomach and abdominal pain.

Upon examination, an X-ray revealed the surgical device lying inside his stomach and he was immediately operated upon once again.

The scissors were removed, however, the man still remains critical, a report in a leading daily said.

As per the report, GGH superintendent Dr Hari has ordered an internal inquiry. The botched operation became public on Monday after the X-ray showing the scissors inside Chalapathi's stomach was leaked to the media.
