Zika virus spreads to 25 countries, no vaccine yet

Zika virus disease has now been reported to have already spread to at least 25 countries.

New Delhi: The mosquito-borne viral infection, Zika virus has been spreading rapidly over the past few months, raising serious health concerns worldwide.

The virus is prominently spread in Brazil but has now been reported to have already spread to at least 25 countries.

World Health Organisation (WHO) said the virus might spread to all American countries, excluding Chile and Canada.

The Zika virus disease is a mosquito-borne viral infection which causes a neurological birth disorder.

The virus is mainly transmitted by the bite of Aedes mosquitoes.

Symptoms of Zika include – mild fever, skin rash, conjunctivitis, normally lasting for 2-7 days.

Till date, there is no vaccine or medication to treat the Zika virus.
