'Deal between PM Modi and Italy to fix Sonia Gandhi': BJP moves privilege motion against Ghulam Nabi Azad

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday moved a privilege motion against leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad over his remark that there was a deal between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Italian counterpart Matteo Renzi to fix Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

BJP's Bhupendra Yadav moved the privilage motion against Azad, who alleged that Prime Minister Modi had met his Italian counterpart and struck a "deal" to free two Italian marines.

"Pronouncement of judgement (on the chopper deal) has come and NDA government is now allowing Italian marines to return home. So the deal is struck," he alleged.

Azad said the UPA government had in 2013 cancelled the deal when wrong-doings were reported and had directed the CBI and ED to investigate corruption charges.

The BJP challenged that Azad had said there was a deal between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian President Sergio Mattarella to fix Congress presi Sonia Gandhi.

Earlier, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy gave a notice in the Rajya Sabha for moving Breach of Privilege Motion against Leader of Opposition Azad over his remarks over the AgustaWestland issue.

Deputy Chairman P J Kurien told Swamy, who took oath as a Nominated member on Tuesday last, "if you have given a privilege notice, there is a rule".

Azad had on Wednesday said in the House that the UPA government had "blacklisted" AgustaWestland company.

"So, I would like to ask this question from the Government. A company, AugustaWestland company, which was blacklisted by the UPA Government, why did Modi Government allow this blacklisted company to take part in 'Make in India'?," Azad had said.
