It Has Platform, Trains Halt, But Has No Name: India’s Only…
Indian Railway Station: India has thousands of railway stations but did you know there's one railway station with no official name? This station is located 35 kilometres from Bardhaman city in West Bengal and remains nameless yet fully operational.
This railway station in West Bengal has been operating without an official name since 2008. Trains stop here daily, passengers board and deboard, yet the station remains officially nameless, often surprising travelers.
The station is located about 35 kilometers from Bardhaman city. Its lack of a name is due to a regional dispute between the villages of Raina and Rainagar.
When Indian Railways established the station in 2008, it was initially named "Rainagar" but the local residents opposed this name and urged the Railway Board to change it.
The matter escalated to the courts and since the case remains unresolved, the station continues to operate without a name.
The station features empty yellow signboards on both sides, silently reflecting the ongoing dispute. First-time visitors often find themselves confused and rely on locals to identify the location.
Only the Bankura-Masagram passenger train stops here six times a day. Interestingly, despite having no official name, tickets sold at the station still labelled with "Rainagar".
This remains the only railway station in India that functions fully despite lacking an official name, making it a rare and unique part of the country’s railway network. (Image: Freepik)
