Dublin: In what may provide enough arsenal to his political opponents to attack him, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday took potshots at 'pseudo-secularism' prevailing in India while lauding the Irish children for chanting Sanskrit mantras.

Addressing the Indian diaspora in Dublin, PM Modi said, “Irish kids are chanting mantras in Sanskrit. They are singing welcome songs. It did not sound as if they had crammed it.”

Further targeting secularism, he said, “In Ireland we can do this, but had it happened in Hindustan then questions would have been raised on secularism.”

Meanwhile, the main opposition party Congress was quick at slamming PM Modi for his remarks on secularism.

Launching a scathing attack at the PM, Congress leader Rashid Alvi told ANI, “He is himself making fun of secularism, he wants to change the definition of patriotism.”
