Kolkata flyover tragedy: As it happened on Friday

The Kolkata police have sealed the city office of IVRCL Infrastructure -- the implementing agency of Kolkata's Vivekananda Road Flyover, which collapsed on Thursday.

• According to PTI, Government is going to review all ongoing highway and bridge projects in the wake of Kolkata mishap.

• Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will visit the accident site in Kolkata tomorrow, reports ANI.
• Six IVRCL officials have been detained, reports NDTV. 
• TMC MP Sudip Bandopadhyay accused the erstwhile Left Front regime of making a "faulty plan" for building the flyover. "The plan and design of the flyover were made during the Left regime. There were faults in the planning and design of the flyover. The locals had complained about the planning of the flyover but at that time 60 percent work was done. There were also discussions whether the design could be changed," Bandopadhyay, TMC MP from Kolkata North, tells reporters.
• The PIL seeks a CBI investigation as well as a panel of experts from IIT Kharagpur to probe the causes for the collapse of Vivekananda Flyover in the busy Posta area.
• A petition has been filed at the Calcutta High Court for a court-monitored probe into the flyover tragedy.
• "The Army rescue teams have been operating throughout the night along with the teams from civil defence, police and the NDRF, trying to remove the debris from the affected area. The focus of operations is now on debris removal and clearance of the road so that normalcy is restored. As of this morning no more bodies are expected to be found under the rubble. The GOC Bengal Area (Lt. Gen Rajeev Tewary) is monitoring the progress of the Army teams closely," says an Army statement.

Earlier, following instructions from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, police had lodged an FIR against the Hyderabad-based company, whose chief termed the mishap as an "act of God".
• At least 23 people were killed when a flyover under construction crashed in a crowded market area in Kolkata on Thursday, crushing scores of unsuspecting people and some vehicles, top officials and witnesses said. The Army was called in to assist in the rescue operation.
