Turkey forms state of emergency coordination committee

The Turkish government has set up a state of emergency coordination committee chaired by Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, Anadolu Agency reported on Sunday.

Ankara: The Turkish government has set up a state of emergency coordination committee chaired by Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, Anadolu Agency reported on Sunday.

The committee will be composed of representatives from the ministries of interior, justice, labour and social security, foreign affairs, finance, defence and national education, Xinhua news agency reported.

The decisions taken by the committee will be carried out immediately by all relevant ministries and public institutions.

Turkey's Parliament approved a bill to introduce a three-month state of emergency on Thursday following a failed coup attempt on July 15.

Meanwhile, Turkey will probe and shut down all companies linked to Fetullah Gulen, the US-based Muslim cleric blamed for orchestrating the abortive coup attempt, Customs and Trade Minister Bulent Tufenkci said on Sunday.

Companies that sponsor Gulen and provide financial resources to his followers will be identified individually, he said.

At least 290 people, including members of the security forces and civilians, were killed during the failed coup and more than 1,500 others were wounded.
