Shatranj Ke Khiladi (1977)
Shatranj Ke Khiladi is a multi-layered film directed by Satyajit Ray based on Munshi Premchand's short story which had the same name.
The story revolves around the annexation of Awadh by the British which was, at the time, ruled by Wajid Ali Shah and two wealthy men who ignore the whole situation and get involved in a tense game of chess.

Pather Panchali (1955)
The film tells the story of a young boy living in poverty with his parents and sister. His father who is a poet is unable to earn a living for the family so his mother has to make the ends meet somehow. She is also faced by the tantrums and mischief of her daughter and things escalate when her husband leaves his family for 5 months and she has to manage her family alone.

Devi (1960)
The protagonist Doyamoyee played by Sharmila Tagore gets married to Umaprasad played by Soumitra Chatterjee. After she moves into his family, she becomes a caretaker for her father-in-law Kaliknkar who starts believing that she is a goddress after a dream he had. Later, he convinces neighbourhood locals to worship the girl which leads her to believe that she has powers.
