Despite the introduction of the FASTag system, long queues of vehicles are seen at toll plazas.

Sometimes, it only takes a few minutes, but at other times, the wait can be long. A technical issue with the toll system can add to the frustration.

Delhi Expressway is set to become the country’s first and only expressway without a toll plaza. Soon, this expressway will be free of toll plazas. It will be the country’s first expressway with no toll plazas and no barricades. Your vehicles will smoothly travel at high speeds.

The Dwarka Expressway will be the country’s first physical toll plaza-free expressway. This expressway will operate on a free-flow tolling system. After the implementation of this system, the only existing toll plaza on the expressway will be eliminated. In the coming months, this expressway will implement the 'Free Flow Tolling' system. This means that you won’t have to stop anywhere to pay a toll on this highway.

However, no toll plaza does not mean there will be no toll tax. Advanced readers that scan FASTags and high-powered cameras reading vehicle number plates, mounted on overhead gantries, will deduct toll charges here.

The 28-kilometer-long expressway will use a satellite-based system for toll collection. NHAI has prepared to install a satellite-based tolling system for this purpose. The toll taxes on this expressway will be collected using the country’s first Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system. This means there will be no toll plazas and no employees on the expressway.

Using sensors and cameras on the pillars of the expressway, vehicle records will be captured, and the data will be processed through the electronic toll payment system, with toll taxes being automatically deducted from your FASTag or account. (All Photos: ANI/PTI)
