Make your boundaries clear
The foundation stone for maintaining work-life balance is setting up clear boundaries and firmly sticking to them. You should clearly state your work hours and not attend any calls or check any work mail beyond those hours. If you bring your workplace stress to your home, even your family life gets spoiled.
Practice self-care with physical activity
Physical activity of any form, may it be yoga or a small walk of a minimum of 30 minutes is a must for a healthy body and also your mental sanity. Physical activity of any form releases the feel-good hormones ‘endorphins’ which aid in reducing the stress levels and making you more focused in your work as well as energized to deal with family stressors.
Quality sleep
Just like a time devoted to physical activity, you need to focus on getting quality sleep at night. You should aim for at least 7-8 hours of sleep at night and stay away from any distractions during your sleep hours such as television or phone etc. With a well-rested body, you can accomplish any task without burnout.
Practice digital disconnection
Everybody is so habitual of electronic devices nowadays, that even when they are free, they devote their time on phone or ipads etc. Though technology is helpful, excess of it is obviously bad and can definitely ruin your personal life. You should set a boundary for yourself and limit your screen time for a few hours once with your family and especially before going to bed. This habit will also help you to remove anxiety and stress from your life caused by overstimulation of the brain while watching gadgets.
Time management
Work-life balance can be well achieved with proper time management, wherein you have to keep a to-do list ready at the beginning of the day and fulfil the tasks on the basis of priority. By this, you can effectively manage your work goals and also be both physically and mentally present in your family hours. One technique that works quite well in striking this balance is the Pomodoro technique in which a five-minute break is recommended after every 25 minutes of work.
