New Zealand all-rounder Jesse Ryder has cut short his spell with Essex due to injury, the English county side announced on Wednesday.
The 32-year-old, who has scored over 1,700 first-class runs and claimed 92 wickets in three seasons at Essex, has a calf strain.
"Jesse Ryder has returned to New Zealand after it was mutually agreed his contract would come to an end early," Essex said in a statement.
"With only Specsavers County Championship games left, it was deemed in the best interests of both parties if Ryder returned to his home country early.
"Having been with the club for the past three years, Ryder has made contributions throughout his time at (Essex) both on and off the pitch.
"Everyone at the club would like to thank Jesse for his services and wish him well for his future endeavours."
Ryder scored 960 runs for Essex in one-day cricket and 881 in Twenty20, averaging 92 with the bat during the 2014 one-day season.
