US congressman lauds India for giving refuge to Afghan Hindus and Sikhs

A US congressman has lauded India for giving refuge to Sikhs and Hindus from Afghanistan. He said that it's an important step towards protecting the communities from imminent destruction at the hands of terrorists. Congressman Jim Costa said in a tweet, "This marks an important step toward protecting Afghanistan’s Sikh and Hindu communities from imminent destruction at the hands of terrorists." India on July 23 had said that the Indian mission in Kabul is providing the Afghan Hindus and Sikhs visas to come to India, adding that their request for Indian citizenship is also being "examined and acted upon" based on "rules and policies".

India to give Afghan Hindus, Sikhs visas, citizenship request being examined

India on Thursday said that the Indian mission in Kabul is providing the Afghan Hindus and Sikhs visas to come to India. MEA spokesperson added that their request for Indian citizenship is also being "examined and acted upon" based on "rules and policies". Anurag Shrivastava said that the Centre has been receiving requests from these communities that "they want to move to India and settle down here".
