More than 2,000 Delhi Metro commuters fined in nine days for not wearing masks

The DMRC has reportedly fined more than 2,000 people in nine days for not wearing masks inside station premises and violating the Centre’s important coronavirus disease (COVID-19)-necessitated protocols. The DMRC also further counselled more than 5,000 people regarding the importance of following the COVID-19-related protocols for cutting down the spread of the coronavirus, especially considering the fact that the pandemic outbreak continues to spread like wildfire. A report mentioned that the DMRC is only issuing fines in the most extreme cases when the passenger in question is not adhering to the necessary guidelines or creating nuisance even after being called out for not wearing masks or abiding by the protocol.

Delhi Metro further strengthens social distancing signages inside trains

DMRC said that apart from stickers on alternate seats, they are now increasing the social distancing signages inside the trains. "800 coaches are already equipped with the floor markers and within a week, floor markers will be placed in the remaining 1400 metro coaches," said DMRC. As per reports, the DMRC will run 4,500 trips from Monday to meet the surge in ridership.

DMRC slashes employees perks, allowances by 50% due to COVID-19 financial loss

According to an internal order issued to employees by the DMRC, the step has been taken "in view of the extreme adverse financial condition due to non-operation of metro services". "It has been decided, that the perks and allowances shall be reduced by 50 per cent with effect from the month of August 2020, till further orders," read the official statement.
