Fall Armyworm threat to crop production across globe, UN raises concern
Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has spent about $12 million to control this pest. This worm generally attacks 80 types of plants, including maize and rice. Fall armyworm can cover a distance of 1 thousand kilometers in a night in search of its food.

One in three people in Congo suffer from acute hunger, warns United Nations
According to FAO and WFP, the Congolese most affected are the displaced, refugees, returnees, host families, those affected by floods, landslides, fires and other natural disasters. The UN Security Council imposed sanctions on Congo after the end of back-to-back wars that destroyed much of the central African nation by 2002. WFP said it is is providing food to 8.7 million people in Congo and FAO said it aims to assist 1.1 million people in areas of high acute food insecurity with assistance to farm and raise livestock.

PM Narendra Modi on Friday will release a commemorative coin of Rs 75 denomination on the occasion of 75th Anniversary of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). This will mark the long-standing relation of India with FAO. The PM will also dedicate to the nation 17 recently developed biofortified varieties of 8 crops.

World food prices fall for sixth straight month in Sept, longest in 15 years: FAO
Bumper harvests and big stockpiles of food are helping to drive world food prices down to the lowest levels for about 15 years, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization reported on Thursday.
