New Delhi: The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) has sought reports relating to the Jewar robbery and alleged gangrape case from the Gautam Buddha Nagar district administration and local police.
Eight people travelling to Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh were looted off Yamuna Expressway in Jewar area, while four women, part of the group, were allegedly raped and a man shot dead on May 25.
In its first meeting held yesterday, the newly-formed panel expressed concern that the culprits concerned were yet to be ensnared and demanded a fortnightly report regarding the progress made in trapping the accused.
It also directed increasing mobile patrolling during night along vulnerable stretches of the expressway, an official statement said.
Noting that evidences relating to the incident have been sent to the forensic science laboratory (FSL), Lucknow to ascertain if the women were raped or molested, the commission insisted that report concerned too be shared with it.
The panel has decided to address issues relating to minority communities in a "mission mode so as to instil a sense of confidence" among them.
There are six notified minority communities in the country namely: Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Sikh, Parsi and Jain.
The commission, the statement said, also decided to visit and hear minority communities to disseminate relevant information and take up their grievances with the central and state governments for quick resolution.
NCM Chairperson Gairul Hasan Rizvi and its members George Kurian, Sunil Singhi, Sulekha Kumbhare and Kastur Khurshed Kaikobad Dastoor took part in the meeting.
The members were appointed to the commission last month.
