Over 4.21 lakh seats vacant in engineering colleges across country: MoE

According to the data, of the 12,53,337 sanctioned seats in engineering colleges approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), 4,21,203 or 33 per cent remained vacant in the year 2021-22.

Maths, physics not mandatory in Class 12 for admissions in engineering college

Earlier, Class 12 level maths and physics subjects were mandatory for students seeking admissions in engineering and technology colleges. The candidates must obtain at least 45 per cent marks (40 per cent marks in case of candidates from reserved category) in these subjects to be eligible for admission, the rule book said.

179 professional colleges shut down in India in academic year 2020-21: AICTE

According to data released by AICTE on Monday (July 27), 179 professional colleges, including engineering colleges and business schools, shut down in India in academic year 2020-21. These colleges shut down due to lack of job opportunities and the lockdown imposed due to coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak. The AICTE data showed that number of closures is the highest in nine years and is twice the number reported in 2019-2020 academic year.
